Industries we keep books for
Ecommerce sellersShopify, Amazon and Etsy payouts, inventory and COGS, and sales tax across states.
Restaurants and foodPOS sales, tips, food and labor cost, and thin-margin reporting.
Landlords and investorsBooks per rental property, deposits, mortgage splits and Schedule E.
Construction and contractorsJob costing, WIP, retainage and construction payroll.
SaaS and softwareMRR, deferred revenue, Stripe payouts and accrual books investors can follow.
Agencies and consultantsProject profitability, retainers and clean monthly books.
Same software. Very different books.
Bookkeeping changes with how the money moves. Here is what a generic setup usually gets wrong in each industry, and what we do instead.
- Ecommerce sellersA generic setup: Books the payout as revenue, hiding fees, refunds and sales tax. What we do: Split every payout into sales, fees, refunds and tax, and book stock as inventory until it sells.
- Restaurants and foodA generic setup: Books deposits as sales and leaves food and labor cost unseen until it is too late to act. What we do: Book daily POS sales, tips and vendor bills on time, so prime cost shows every month.
- Landlords and investorsA generic setup: Blends every property together, so nobody knows which one earns. What we do: Keep books per property, with deposits held as liabilities and mortgages split.
- Construction and contractorsA generic setup: Shows one margin for the whole company, so a losing job hides inside the total. What we do: Code costs to each job, with WIP and retainage tracked, so profit shows job by job.
- SaaS and softwareA generic setup: Counts cash from an annual plan as this month’s revenue. What we do: Spread revenue over the months it covers, with deferred revenue on the balance sheet.
- Agencies and consultantsA generic setup: Puts all revenue in one lump, so nobody sees which clients are profitable. What we do: Track revenue and direct costs by client or project, with retainers and project fees kept apart.

Industry bookkeeping questions.
Do you only work with these six industries?
No. These are the six where generic bookkeeping most often goes wrong, so we explain them in detail. If you run another kind of business on QuickBooks Online or Xero, tell us how the money moves and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.
Do I need an industry specialist or a general bookkeeper?
If money reaches you in a simple way, such as invoices paid by bank transfer, a careful general bookkeeper is enough. If it arrives as marketplace payouts, daily POS batches, rent from several properties, progress billings or annual plans paid up front, you want someone who knows that pattern, because those are the places generic books go wrong.
Our monthly work covers the general part, and the setup for your industry, such as clearing accounts for payouts or a class for each property, is built in from the first month. Not sure which you need? A free books review shows where your file stands.
Will the person on my file understand my industry?
You get a named point of contact who knows your file. The industry work, such as splitting payouts, booking tips, costing jobs or spreading annual plans, is built into how your books are set up and closed each month.
Can you take over partway through the year?
Yes. The free books review shows where things stand first, in about 48 hours. If the books are behind or wrong, catch-up and cleanup are quoted as a fixed price before any work starts, then monthly work keeps you current.
Do I need to change software?
No. We work inside your own QuickBooks Online, Xero or other accounting software, alongside the tools you already run, such as Shopify, Square or Stripe, and your data stays in your own systems.
