Small business tax preparation. From books that are already right.

Our small business tax preparation starts from books we have already reconciled: we prepare your federal, state and sales-tax returns, track every deadline and send a note each quarter on what to set aside. Tax preparation comes with the Growth plan, from $350 a month, so one team handles your books and your tax.

Included in Growth, from $350/month

All year
  • Your deadlines, tracked for you
  • Returns prepared from reconciled books
  • What to set aside, quarter by quarter

One team for books and tax, so nothing falls in the gap

Bookkeeping and tax services from one team. So the return matches the books.

A tax return is only as good as the books underneath it. Miscoded spending, unreconciled accounts and payouts booked as sales all flow straight into it.

Because we keep your books reconciled all year, preparing the return is the last step of work that is already done, not a rebuild every spring. We review how the items that matter were treated, such as owner pay and equipment, and explain them to you before anything is filed.

We prepare the returns and file them too: you go through each one with us, and it is filed once you approve it.

Where it stops. You review and sign your returns, and the responsibility for them stays yours. Formal representation before the IRS is a separate, credentialed service and is not part of tax preparation.

Who it is for

  • LLCs and S corporations
  • Sellers in more than one state
  • Businesses paying contractors
  • Sole proprietors with sales tax or 1099s to file

Probably not the right fit if you only want a return prepared in April from a box of receipts, with no books kept. Start with a catch-up instead.

Which business returns are included. And what is not.

The returns your business needs, prepared and filed, with nothing left between your bookkeeper and your preparer. Your fixed quote lists exactly which ones.

Included

  • Your business’s federal and state income-tax returns, prepared from reconciled books
  • Sales-tax returns where you have an obligation, filed on schedule
  • 1099s and year-end forms
  • A deadline calendar for your business
  • Estimated-tax guidance, quarter by quarter
  • Filing, once you have reviewed and approved each return

Not included, or a separate service

  • Years where the books are behind: a fixed-price catch-up comes first
  • Books that exist but are wrong: bookkeeping cleanup, quoted first
  • Payroll-tax deposits and quarterly payroll returns: payroll, also in Growth
  • Your personal return: we send your personal preparer the year-end figures they need from the books
  • Formal representation in an IRS audit or appeal

Tools we work with for tax preparation

LLCs and S corps: books first, then the return.

How an LLC is taxed depends on how it is set up and what it has elected. Either way, the return is where owner pay, distributions and loans get tested.

  • Owner pay kept out of expenses

Draws and distributions recorded as equity, not as costs, so profit is not understated and the equity accounts tie.

  • S corp salary through payroll

Owners who work in an S corp generally need a reasonable salary through payroll. Payroll is in Growth too, kept separate from distributions.

  • Money in and out, recorded as what it is

Cash you put in or take out booked as capital or a loan, instead of disappearing into income or expenses.

Your quote names which returns we prepare and who signs them. For the bookkeeping side in more depth, read our guide to LLC and S corp bookkeeping.

Sales tax filing. Tracked monthly, filed on schedule.

Sales-tax filing is part of Growth. We track where your sales may create an obligation and file where you are registered.

Where you are registered
Returns filed monthly, quarterly or yearly, on the schedule each state assigns you.
Tax you collect
Kept as a liability, not counted as revenue, so your sales figures and your return both stay right.
Marketplace sales
Marketplaces such as Amazon and Etsy collect tax on their own sales, but sales through your own store can still need returns. We show you which.
Form 1099-K
If a payment platform sends you one, we tie it to your books before the return. See the 1099-K threshold for online sellers.
In Michigan
The state’s 6% sales tax filed on the schedule it assigns you. More in our guide to Michigan sales tax filing.

Your tax year with us.

  1. Every month

Books reconciled, and sales tax tracked and filed where you have an obligation.

  2. Every quarter

A note on what to set aside for estimated tax, based on your actual year to date.

  3. At year end

1099s and year-end forms prepared, and the books closed for the year.

  4. Filing season

Returns prepared from the closed books, reviewed with you, filed once you approve, with a plain-English note on what drove the result.

What we need from you

A short list, with dates, so nothing lands in the last week.

  • Last year’s returns, in your first year with us
  • Anything outside the books, such as a home office or vehicle use
  • The items on our year-end checklist, before December 31
  • Answers to our year-end question list by the date we give you
  • Tax forms you received, such as 1099s from customers or platforms
  • Your review and signature before we file

Tax deadlines we put on your calendar.

Which ones apply depends on how your business is set up. We map yours when we start and remind you well before each one.

General federal dates for calendar-year businesses. A date that falls on a weekend or holiday moves to the next business day. An extension gives more time to file, not more time to pay. Sources: IRS Publication 509, Tax Calendars; IRS Instructions for Forms 1099-MISC and 1099-NEC. Checked .

  1. Jan31

    W-2s and 1099-NEC forms

To workers, and to the Social Security Administration (W-2s) or the IRS (1099-NEC). For payments made in 2026, the 1099-NEC threshold is $2,000 (it was $600 through 2025), and the forms are due February 1, 2027, because January 31 falls on a Sunday.

  2. Mar15

    S corporation and partnership returns

For calendar-year businesses taxed that way. Your quote says which returns we prepare.

  3. Apr15

    Sole proprietors and single-member LLCs

Business profit reported on the owner’s personal return. Your personal preparer gets the year-end figures from us.

  4. Quarterly4×

    Estimated tax payments

April 15, June 15, September 15 and January 15, for owners whose business profit lands on their personal return.

  5. Sales taxBy state

    Sales-tax returns

Monthly, quarterly or yearly, on the schedule each state gives you.

Tax preparation pricing. Part of Growth, from $350.

Tax preparation comes with the Growth plan, so the people keeping your books all year are the ones preparing your returns. We confirm one fixed monthly fee after a short look, and any later change is agreed with you first.

It sits on top of monthly bookkeeping because the return depends on reconciled books. If past years are behind, we catch them up first, quoted as one fixed price.

What sets your fee

  • Which returns your business files
  • How many states you file sales tax in
  • Your transaction volume and how many people are on payroll

Tax preparation questions.

Who prepares and signs my return?

A preparer on our team, working from the books we keep for you all year. Your quote names who prepares and signs each return, and you review and approve every return before it is filed.

If that preparer works outside the US, we ask for your written consent before any tax return information goes to them, as US rules require, and you can decline. More on who does the work, and where.

What about my personal return?

We prepare your business returns. If your business profit lands on your personal return, we send your personal preparer the year-end figures they need from the books, and your fixed quote says exactly which returns we file.

Which deadlines do you track for us?

Every federal, state and sales-tax date that applies to your business: return due dates, estimated-tax dates, 1099 and W-2 dates and your sales-tax schedule. We map them when we start and remind you well before each one.

If a return looks like it needs more time, we tell you early. An extension gives more time to file, not more time to pay.

Do you tell us what to set aside each quarter?

Yes. Each quarter you get a short note with a figure based on your actual year to date, so April is not a surprise. It is guidance from your books, and you decide what to pay.

Do you prepare and file our 1099s?

Yes, 1099s and year-end forms are part of tax preparation. We track contractor payments all year and ask for missing W-9s early. For payments made in 2026 the 1099-NEC threshold is $2,000 (it was $600 through 2025), and the forms are due February 1, 2027. The details are in our 1099 rules for 2026.

Can you file sales tax in more than one state?

Yes. We track where your sales may create an obligation and file where you are registered, on each state’s own schedule. Marketplaces collect tax on their own sales, but sales through your own store can still need returns, and we show you which.

What documents do I need for business taxes?

If we keep your books, most of it is already there. From you: last year’s returns in your first year with us, anything outside the books such as home office or vehicle use, papers for loans and large purchases, tax forms you received, and answers to our year-end question list.

Can I file my business taxes myself?

You can, and some owners do. What matters most is the books underneath: if they are reconciled and categorized, the return is easier and safer whoever prepares it. If you file yourself, monthly bookkeeping still gives you clean year-end figures to file from.
