Payroll and bookkeeping services for small businesses. Every payday, every filing.

Our payroll and bookkeeping services keep your team paid and your books right in one place: each run prepared for your approval, filed on schedule in every state you employ in, and recorded in your books. Payroll comes with the Growth plan, from $350 a month, including year-end W-2s and 1099s.

Included in Growth, from $350/month

Each pay run
  • Prepared and checked, ready for you to approve
  • Payroll taxes calculated, deposited and filed on schedule
  • Wages and liabilities recorded in your books

Year-end W-2s and 1099s included

Small business payroll and the books it lands in. From one team.

Payroll is unforgiving. Each run has to be correct, and each one sets off tax deposits and filings with deadlines of their own.

We set up each employee and contractor, prepare every run for your approval, keep the deposits and filings on schedule, and record the whole run in your books, so wages and liabilities never land as a mystery in the bank feed. Our small business payroll services carry on past the paycheck, into your books, so nothing falls between two providers.

Where it stops. Payroll covers paying your team and the payroll filings. Your business tax return and your monthly books are their own services, and on the Growth plan, from $350/month, all three come together.

Who it is for

  • First-time employers
  • S corporation owners paying themselves
  • Growing teams and contractors
  • Multi-state teams

Probably not the right fit if you need a payroll clerk working in your office.

What payroll includes. And what it does not.

One clear line between our work and yours, so nothing falls into the gap between them.

  • Your business tax return and sales-tax filing: that is tax preparation, which comes with payroll in the Growth plan

A pay run with us.

  1. We prepare the run

Hours, salaries, new starters and changes go in, and the run is checked before it reaches you.

  2. You approve it

Nothing is paid until you say so. You see what each person gets and what the run costs.

  3. Your team is paid

On payday, with federal and state payroll taxes calculated and deposited on schedule.

  4. Books updated

Wages, employer taxes and liabilities recorded properly, never left as a mystery in the bank feed.

What we need from you

A few minutes each pay run. You approve each run; we handle the calculation, payment and filing.

  • Hours, new hires, raises and leavers before the run is prepared
  • Your approval of each run before payday
  • A W-4 from each new employee and a W-9 from each contractor
  • A word before you hire in a new state

Multi-state payroll.

A hire in another state, or a remote employee who moves, adds a second set of payroll rules, not just a second address.

Multi-state payroll is part of the same payroll service. Tell us before someone starts working in a new state, so the registrations are in place before their first payday.

  • Every state you employ in
  • Runs you approve before payday
Registrations
Employer accounts set up in each new state: state income-tax withholding where the state has an income tax, and state unemployment insurance.
Withholding
The right state’s tax withheld for each person, based on where they work and, where neighboring states have a reciprocal agreement, where they live.
Local taxes
City and local income taxes where they apply, such as Michigan city income tax withholding.
State filings
Quarterly and annual state payroll returns and unemployment reports, each on its own state’s calendar.
Moves and remote staff
When someone moves or starts working from another state, withholding switches on the right payday, not months later.

Payroll tax deadlines we keep for you.

Payroll runs on a calendar of deadlines. We map yours when we start and keep each one.

General federal dates for calendar-year employers. A date that falls on a weekend or holiday moves to the next business day. State dates vary, and we track yours.

W-2s, 1099s and year-end forms. Paying contractors? Our guide to the 1099 rules for 2026 payments covers the new $2,000 threshold and the February 1, 2027 deadline.

    Pay, deposit, record

Your team paid, payroll taxes deposited on the schedule set for your business, and the run recorded in your books.

  2. Quarterly4×

Form 941, and state quarterly returns

Form 941 is due by the end of the month after each quarter: April 30, July 31, October 31 and January 31. State payroll returns follow each state’s own calendar.

  3. Jan31

    W-2s, 1099-NEC forms and Form 940

W-2s to employees and the Social Security Administration, 1099-NEC forms to contractors and the IRS, and the annual federal unemployment return. For payments made in 2026, the 1099-NEC threshold is $2,000, and these forms are due February 1, 2027, because January 31 falls on a Sunday.

    New hires, states and rates

Payroll questions.

Can a bookkeeper do payroll?

Yes. Many bookkeepers run payroll, and doing both in one place means every run lands in the books correctly: wages, employer taxes and liabilities recorded, not left as unexplained withdrawals. We prepare each run in your payroll software for you to approve, then handle the deposits and filings and record the run.

Which payroll systems do you use?

Gusto, or the payroll tool that connects to your QuickBooks Online or Xero, chosen to fit your team. We also work with ADP.

Do you offer multi-state payroll?

Yes. We register you in each new state, withhold and file there, and keep each state’s rates current. Tell us before you hire in a new state, so the registration is done before the first payday.

I own an S corporation or an LLC. Do I need payroll?

If you own an S corporation and work in the business, usually yes: the IRS expects you to pay yourself a reasonable salary through payroll before you take distributions. An LLC taxed as a sole proprietorship or partnership usually pays its owners through draws instead, not payroll. We set an owner’s salary up as a regular run and record it properly. Our guide explains owner draws vs payroll in an LLC.

What do I need before my first payroll?

An employer identification number (EIN) from the IRS, a state unemployment account in each state where people work, plus a state withholding account where that state taxes wages, a signed W-4 from each employee, I-9 forms kept on file, bank details for direct deposit, and agreed pay rates and pay dates. If you are switching provider partway through the year, we also need year-to-date wages and taxes, so the W-2s come out right; the start of a quarter is the cleanest time to switch.

Do you pay contractors and send 1099s?

Yes. Contractors are set up with a W-9 and sent a 1099-NEC at year end when they qualify. For payments made in 2026, the federal threshold is $2,000 for the year, up from $600. State rules can differ, and our 1099 guide has the details.

Who is responsible if a tax deposit is late?

By law the employer stays responsible for payroll taxes, even when someone else processes them. That is why you approve each run, and why it is worth checking your federal deposits yourself in the IRS’s EFTPS system. Questions about a run go to your named contact, who replies within one business day.

How much does a payroll service cost?

With us, payroll is part of the Growth plan, from $350/month, together with your monthly bookkeeping, tax preparation, sales-tax filing and a monthly review call. We confirm your exact fixed fee after a short look at your team and volume.

The total cost of payroll has three parts: the payroll software subscription (such as Gusto), our fixed service fee, and the employer payroll taxes you owe on wages, which are a cost of employing people whoever runs payroll. Your quote says whether the software subscription is inside your fixed fee or billed to you by the provider. If your team grows a lot, we talk first, and any change is agreed with you in advance and is usually small.
